Plugboats Newsletter January 24, 2025

Welcome to the world of electric boats and boating. This is the newsletter that regular readers of the Plugboats website receive. If you find it informative, I hope you’ll sign up. I also hope you will explore Plugboats.com, which has a lot more to offer than the simple newsletter. It is the world’s only international website dedicated 100% to electric boats and boating and has all the latest news as well as electric motor buying guides, an international directory of over 800 electric boat suppliers and a marketplace of electric motors and boats for sale, rent and charter. I hope you enjoy the newsletter and invite you to sign up and / or discover more at Plugboats.com

The Düsseldorf Boat Show began last Saturday, the largest boat show in the world. As with all major boat shows, Plugboats has done a look at some of the electric boats and motors highlights of the show along with a ‘mini-directory’ for more information on all of the 100+ electric exhibitors.
That 100+ is a record for e-boat and boating exhibitors at ‘Boot’ – which I am delighted to report – but I am also delighted to report that this is the first time we have done a similar electric guide for the Toronto International Boat Show, North America’s largest indoor boat show. This is the first time there have been enough electric exhibitors to warrant a full article and Guide.
This weekend also marks the beginning of the second season of the E1 Electric Boat Racing Series. In other news, France’s Temo has launched a line of electric pod motors, and there are a couple of interesting new items in the Plugboats Marketplace, including solar boat tours on the French Riviera and the ENAUTIC Wave Flyer from Australia.
Now that the boat shows are over (I attended Boot for four days, and am speaking about electric boats at the Toronto Show for the next three days), attention can be turned to general electric boat news for the next newsletter. And there is a lot coming!
Thanks for your support of Plugboats and I hope you enjoy this newsletter.

Highlights include Frauscher winning the Electric category of the European Powerboat Awards, and items about 12 electric boat motor manufacturers, 8 electric boatyards (including a couple of world debuts), and a couple of ‘Fun Electric Boats’ we saw at Düsseldorf. The show is on until January 28.
The UIM E1 World Championship, the all electric boat racing series that made its debut on the shores of the Red Sea last February, is returning to Jeddah this January 24 and 25 to open its second exciting season. It will be the first stop of an expanded calendar set to feature seven events across multiple continents.
TEMO, maker of the convenient TEWMO 450 and TEMO 100 wand and rudder electric motors, now has a line of three electric pod motors designed to be permanently installed in the hull of a sailboat (or any boat) using a modular concept and Plug and Play set up. This makes them very easy to install and to meet the power and range needs of different purposes and owners.
North America’s largest indoor boat show, the Toronto International Boat Show, takes place January 18 to 26 and is boasting the highest number of exhibitors in the electric boat and motor realm since it was started in 1959.
One of the unique features of the show is an indoor lake, which – not surprisingly – is also used as an ice rink on other occasions. Holding over 1 million gallons of water, it is used at the show for water sport and other demonstrations and this year will host a segment each afternoon: “The Electrification of Boating in Canada.”
