The Miami International Boat Show begins tomorrow, and this issue of the Plugboats newsletter has our Guide to Electric Boats Exhibitors. Also stories from New Zealand, Denmark, and Sardinia.

Electric boats and boating are having a larger presence than ever at this year’s Miami International Boat Show (MIBS), with the Electric Pavilion moving outside to a prime location. The gathering of e-boats and motors is being presented by Nautical Ventures and MIBS organizers Informa Group in Pride Park, just outside the Miami Beach Convention Center, and adjacent to the Nautical Ventures’ ever popular AquaZone.
New Zealand is the latest country to introduce an electric hydrofoiling ferry service. Fullers360, New Zealand’s largest ferry transport and tourism operator has launched the Vessev VS-9, the first time in the world that a certified electric hydrofoiling vessel has entered the fleet of a commercial operator, as opposed to publicly-owned municipal transport.
IGY Marinas, one of the world’s leading international marina networks, has partnered with Aqua superPower, – the world’s largest marine charging network – to bring the first high speed marine chargers to the island of Sardinia.
EPTechnologies, the Danish electric boat motor, battery and full systems company, celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2024 and is looking forward to the next decade with a slate of new products shown at METSTRADE.
Washington, D.C. (February 2, 2025) – Following the announcement by President Trump regarding tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) released the following statement from NMMA President and CEO Frank Hugelmeyer:
“The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA)—the leading trade association representing the U.S. recreational boating industry, which generates $230 billion in annual economic impact—is deeply concerned about the escalating trade actions between the United States, Canada and Mexico.
