The 37th edition of METStrade, the largest show in the world for the leisure marine industry, was held a few weeks ago at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam. More than 100 electric boats and boating exhibitors were among the 1,700 exhibitors spread throughout the RAI’s 11 halls and 112,200 m2 (1.2 Million sq ft). The new owners of a Silent Yachts 62 Tri-Deck solar electric catamaran – which they named ‘100%‘ – are sailing their new purchase across the Atlantic and you can track her progress, monitor the solar system and ask questions of the crew as they make the 3,200 nautical mile journey from Gibraltar to Antiqua.

We caught up with Captain Steve Bell (also Vice Chairman of Silent Yachts) on Sunday, November 30 to find out more about the yacht and the journey.

While the financial headlines these days may not be the most optimistic in general,  buoyant enthusiasm is the word of the day in the electric boat world with recent investments worth tens of millions of dollars, Swiss francs, Euros and yuan coming in for four companies based in four countries: Explomar of China, Flux Marine in the USA, MobyFly of Switzerland and Germany’s TYDE.
